lenses

Just been drooling over lonses... well, not literally!

I have recently purchased my new EF-S55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens! Love it! Very happy with it! It is exactly what I need for doing my landscape photography! As yet I have not tried it out while following Oreo around! Although I have stood down the back yard and shot great shots of Gav n Onjahlika at the back door! And considering how long our yard is... Very happy! Now - If I'm quick enough I might be able to get good shots of the neighbours elusive cat or the remnent of the rabbits that used to live in the neighbours yard! Looking forward to more possibilities as the yard dries out and the weather warms up!! Oh and moon shots... very good... the only thing that let me down there was the ! I cant handle the added weight of the new lens! To solve that I need something a little better than a cheap tripod! But for general use its good!

The next lens I need in my "kit" is a macro for doing jewellery photography! I have plenty o jewels to photograph! Already shot some with my EF-S18-55mm. The photos come out clear and good - but not good enough for doing advertising for jewellery (like what you see in a brochure), But for everything else it is good!

O and I brought for myself a spiderpod (aka gorillapod). My model is the huntsman!! Yay! Very cool little tripod! When Gavy was making the compost surrounds I had the tripod attached to a star picket so that my photos would come out without camera shake! Very versatile! It even holds the added weight of the new lens! Have not yet tried it with any long exposure shots! I will probablhy do that too one day!

Trying to start a photography business is daunting but fun! All this stuff I need to learn and ideas... so many ideas of things to try! So much stuff to think about! Business plan... advertising... website... finances... Although I do need someone to purchase my prints!! Therefore - I need customers... anybody willing??

more experimentation

I made myself a reflector today... just a piece of a cardboard box wraped in aluminium foil! Not much really! I tried it out on a bonsasi I have (which is still sitting outside - I must go get it incase the frost tries to kill it! - plant now in.)... I used my home made reflector on my little plant and the difference is amazing! It is certainly something I wish I had a long time ago... but it wasn't until I was reading an article in Digital SLR Photography magazine that I actually discovered these things called reflectors! I had to go online and search some images to find out exactly what one was! I am seriously uneducaterd in the world of photography!

I haven't tried out my light box yet. I have a few things I'd like to try in it! Might happen on the next rainy cold day when I'm itching for something to do! For now it will just sit in my soon to be retrofitted suitcase come camera case!

I'm doing my photography on a budget because I have a very small budget! Just means I have to be creative!

just looking

apparently this - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000093UDQ has gotten the curiosity of someone! not entirely sure why... anyway!...

torrington/blatherarm

I just love my camera... we were out the other day... I was taking photos while Gav and Ian were digging holes looking for that ever elusive gem stone! I told my lovely husband that I had taken a mere 71 photos... his response was... "only?" Then I asked him how many rolls of film that equated to! I am so very glad I have a digital camera! Not saying that film cameras are bad - actually in my opinion you need to be a very good photographer to use a film camera!

I also have a question to ask... why is it that some people would prefer a compact camera over an SLR (digital or not)? I have talked with some people who have downsized from an SLR to a compact for ease of portability! Maybe I'm just weird in taking my camera wherever I go regardless of it's size!

Maybe I'm still thinking very much black and white... if you are taking photos then you want good photos... to get the best photos you can you use an SLR camera where you can tweak the settings and what not for the best outcome! Therefore why use a compact camera that gives you less control over your images? Therefore the photos need to be "fixed" in something like photoshop... Maybe I'm just screwed up or got it all wrong!

things I need

1. a light box! Gav wishes to make and sell jewelery... I am a photographer... And I also have plenty of my own jewls to practice with! (thank you Gav for buying most of them for me!)
2. lights - these would be great! Or something like them! PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO CONTINUOUS LIGHTING UMBRELLA KIT + Free 27 Watts 5500K Fluorescent Photo Lamp Bulb Or maybe something like this! Might be a little better! Quoizel Orange Butterfly Tiffany 1 Light Accent Lamp - This is pretty but I'm not sure it would help me!
light tents... Ok... hmm... Shows you how much I know - A light box is the same as a light tent! Why cant the termanology be standardized? Honestly the image I get in my head of light boxes is this wooden thing with a hinged glass front with a fluro light inside it - kind of what is used to display gemstones!
3. Oh and maybe a table to put it all on unless I am to work on the floor!!
And a doggy door so when Oreo wants to go bark at something outside he can do so...

hmmmm

I think I might just go and continue making my camera pouch! I am afterall a little on the bored side of things! But before I do that - I might just see if I can pull the splinter out of my finger!

I just had an idea... I have I don't know how many photo frames... I think I might find one and chuck one of my photos in it and sell it!! Anyone what a picture to hang on your wall? If so- what sort: sunset, sunrise, trees, flower without bees or butterflies, flower with bee or butterfly?

Splinter in finger gone - now for the other one in the palm of my hand! Now I have a hole in my litle finger and a hole in the palm of my hand! I guess that's what I get for chopping kindling wood!

Anyways - let me know what sort of picture you might like... to see some of my examples http://tigereyephotos.blogspot.com/ or http://www.panoramio.com/user/4452197...

try my hand at something new

Oooh... this is slow going... typing with one hand! Anyways...
Canon EOS 450D... brilliant camera! So far I have not found anything wrong with it! But then, I'm still learning! Like - I haven't worked out how to get the live view bit to do it's thing... but who needs that?!

It takes better pictures than my Pentax Optio 33LF... but then again my Pentax is about 7 years old(something like that)! The poor thing has been dropped, kicked, left out in the damp grass (once) overnight and treated as a chew toy and it still goes! Well mostly goes! It is dying - hence the need for a new camera!

I'd had my eye on Canon EOS cameras for a while after my sister showed me hers! And I finally got the money to buy the one I have! I was so excited! I couldn't wait for the battery to be charged! I got an
8gb memory card to go with it and in a few short hours I had filled it! Computer nearly had a heart attack... it had only ever dealt with 128mb or 256mb memory cards!

I was happy to be able to customize things like the monochrome settings - with my Pentax I could only set it to a setting and any changes that needed to be made had to be done on the computer! I must admit that I've had to learn shutter speed, white balance (or lack thereof), f stop or aperture or whatever that f number is actually called, and ISO! A happy learning curve!

Sadly - right now I cant really use it except when it's on my tripod... wrist issues! I hate wrist issues! Cant hold it with my right hand for fear of fingers deciding not to work and therefore drop the camera! Also finding it slightly painful to push the shutter button... but again, that is no fault of the camera!

Yes the 450D is heavier than my Pentax - but I'd expect that! I have had the dis-pleasure of holding and trying to use heavier cameras... no thanks! The only time it's weight becomes an issue is when my wrist plays up! Then the tripod comes in handy!

Another thing I like about my 450D... I have RAW images! Larger and better quality than JPG! Only downside with them is they take up more room on a disk! Small price to pay for better quality images! Although three DVD disks of images per month of Onjahlika! Basically I could make a movie of her life with the number of photos I have! Will I stop taking that many photos of her? Probably not! There are plenty of parents and step parents to give photos to!

I like my camera!

just looking

Digital SLR Photography magazine... borrowed a copy from the local library! Very interesting read... gave me a few extra ideas on things to do with my photos after I have taken them! I think I might try out some of the ideas!! I shall post them in http://tigereyephotos.blogspot.com/ when I've gotten around to trying the ideas out! Could be fun!

And I also found another magazine - Australian Photography! Another good read!

Well - I'm going to go and see if I can tweak a few things! Wish me well!

yay

what I tried and couldn't do yesterday - I succeeded in doing today!!

not too much typing for me tonight - tendons in my wrist/hand are playing up and I'm in some pain!

finally

After much frustration and serious lack of decent instructions... I have it! Thank you oh helpful husband who helped me sort out the issue!!

Oh dear... 12.01am - hmmm should stop trying to sell things and get to bed... No wonder Oreo is wandering around like a lost soul... he needs to pee before he has his beauty sleep! Poor puppy!

O, great... still not finished sorting this out! yay... just saw another thing I need to do!

And let the dog out! why does he have to be too big for doggy doors?
